Role Overview:
As a Paraplanner at Truly Independent Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our financial advisers by providing technical expertise, conducting in-depth research, and ensuring all advice and documentation meet regulatory and compliance standards.
This role is integral to delivering a seamless client experience. You will work closely with advisers, administrators, and compliance teams to produce high-quality, accurate suitability reports and advice files. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial products and regulatory requirements and an eye for detail to ensure that advice is both compliant and client focused.
Your work will help drive the success of our advisers, enabling them to focus on building relationships and providing excellent financial advice, while you ensure the technical and compliance backbone is robust and reliable.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Report Preparation
- Draft comprehensive Suitability Reports tailored to individual client needs, ensuring the accuracy and clarity of recommendations.
- Prepare additional documentation, such as Annual Review reports to assist advisers in maintaining ongoing client relationships.
- Update and maintain client records in line with FCA requirements and company procedures.
Research and Analysis
- Conduct in-depth product research to compare features, benefits, and suitability of financial products across pensions, investments, protection, and tax-efficient solutions.
- Analyse client portfolios to assess performance, risk levels, and alignment with financial objectives.
- Provide advisers with data-driven insights to support the advice process.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure all recommendations and reports meet FCA compliance standards, including accurate documentation of adviser-client conversations and client circumstances.
- Keep up to date with changes in regulatory requirements as communicated by the compliance team and ensure that these are applied to any recommendations prepared.
- Ensure that appropriate records are maintained of the advice process.
- Work closely with the compliance team to resolve any issues and ensure all documentation is reviewed and approved before submission.
- Assist with updating suitability report templates to ensure that these remain compliant and reflect the latest taxation legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Support advisers in identifying and mitigating potential compliance risks in complex cases.
Technical Support
- Develop financial plans using cash flow modelling tools to demonstrate the long- term impact of recommendations on a client’s financial position.
- Assist advisers with technical calculations, such as chargeable/capital gains, IHT liabilities and investment risk assessments.
- Provide detailed breakdowns of tax implications and assist the adviser with identifying the most appropriate solution for clients.
Software Utilisation
- Manage and maintain accurate client data within financial planning software and back-office systems.
- Ensure software and systems are used effectively to meet regulatory and operational standards.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with financial advisers, compliance officers, and administrative teams to ensure a seamless client experience.
- Share knowledge and insights with colleagues to improve team performance and stay ahead of industry changes.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
Essential:
- At least 2 years of experience in a paraplanning role or within a financial services environment.
- Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning
- Strong understanding of financial products across pensions, investments, protection, and taxation.
- Proficiency in financial planning research tools such as SelectaPension, Defaqto, and CashCalc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). • Familiarity with FCA regulations and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to analyse data and provide clear, concise recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical details effectively.
- Familiarity with tax planning, trusts, and estate planning. • Experience using back-office systems like True Potential, Intelligent Office, or similar.
Desirable:
- Chartered Financial Planner status or working towards it.
- Additional certifications, such as Equity Release, Long Term Care and Mortgage Advice.
- Previous experience in an independent financial advice firm.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- A proactive mindset and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
